Another from last year's trip to Triple D Game Farm. Looking forward to traveling next week and trying out the new Nikon D3 and its fabulous Auto Focus on the wildlife in Montana.
I am getting ready for a return trip to Montana/s Triple D Game Preserve in Kalispell, MT on January 6th 2008. Just acquired a Nikon D3 and hope to test out its many features for 5 days capturing images similar to the above Bobcat. This youngster was quite playfull and enjoyed the snow. Paid no attention to the six photographers that invaded his space. Jay and Kim Deist run a great program at Triple D. If you are excited about wildlife photography, then Triple D in winter is the place to be. Watch for future posts as I revisit past experiences with Montana's wildlife.

On overcast days there are many opportunties to photograph the Waterfall of the Canadian Rockies. I isolated this image from a larger Waterfall to render this colorful image.

The Intensity in the eyes of this Mountain Lion shows the character of this beautiful animal. Thanks to Animals of Montana and all the folks involved in Bozeman, Montana for this winter shoot.

Maligne Lake in Jasper National Forest in the Canadian Rockies is truly a great place to visit. This image was captured after sunset while the Twilight was glistening off the water. A harvest moon helped with some special lighting on this fabulous Boat House.
After an invigorating walk into the Stanley Falls area you find several waterfalls. This "Punch Bowl" was one of the most dynamic. Definately worth the walk. Stanley Falls, Canadian Rockies, September 2007.
Rustic Falls in Yellowstone National park is a unique setting that should not be missed while in the park. Cloudy and overcast days are perfect for capturing images of these great waterfalls. Yellowstone National Park, June, 2007.
Nikon D2Xs, Nikkor 24-120 VR Lens at 66mm. ISO 100, Manual Mode, F5.3, Shutterspeed unrecorded. Nikon Capture NX, Photoshop CS3.

Bringing back another waterfall image from a recent trip to the Grand Tetons. Here is an image of Moose Falls. A note of excitement of late!! A previous post showed my image capture of Moraine Lake in the Canadian Rockies. I just received notice that it has been selected in the third tier of the North American Nature Photographers Association's 2008 Showcase. It was selected in the top 250 images out of 4,251 images submitted and only had a 5% chance of being selected. That image will apprear in NANPA's "Expressions" journal being published next year.
A recent trip to the Butterfly House at the Toledo Zoo provided us a great opportunity to capture Butterflies in an early morning shoot with the Toledo Area Metro Parks. The zoo was kind enough to allow us in the door before the masses of people to give us a better shooting opportunity. I had a chance to practice with the Nikon R1C1 flash and it was really cool. More to come.

One of very few moments when the sun was shining allowing us to actually capture an image or two. We were on our way back from Jasper and had seen this s-curve on our way out. Certainly proved to be a great opportunity. The only problems were related to traffic. Cars and Buses were traveling both ways and the timing had to be perfect.

Wow! Finally have an opportunity to post from my trip to the Canadian Rockies. Arrived safely last Friday evening and found no internet access and no cell phone coverage. We stayed at the Crossings between Bow Lake and Jasper. All week we experienced overcast skies, rain, snow (5") and poor lighting. Here is a post from Tangle Falls near the Icefields. Since it was cloudy we spent a lot of time on waterfalls. So most of my posts will be similar to the above image. Sitting at the Super 8 in Calgary and will be departing tomorrow at 8 am.

Lake Moraine
Photo taken with Nikon D2x, ISO-100, f/16 at 1sec 12-24 mm Zoom Lens at 22mm. Sing Ray Split Neutral Density Filter Nikon Capture NX and CS3.
This Friday I am off, once again, to the Canadian Rockies. Our plans are to travel more towards Jasper than in the past to capture some images we have yet to get in our sites. This morning shot of Lake Moraine is just a sample of the many photo opportunities that wait for us during the next week. I will keep you posted on our progress as long as there is a wireless network nearby.
